{"id":190,"date":"2016-01-12T10:05:50","date_gmt":"2016-01-12T17:05:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wiki.lillerant.com\/?p=190"},"modified":"2016-01-12T16:39:24","modified_gmt":"2016-01-12T23:39:24","slug":"el-capitan-on-mac-pro-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wiki.lillerant.com\/?p=190","title":{"rendered":"El Capitan on Mac Pro 1,1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple abandoned the Mac Pro 1,1 ages ago, but the hardware is perfectly capable of running El Capitan.\u00a0 With a little help.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>There are a number of guides available, but they tend to either a) vanish or b) not actually work exactly as indicated.<\/p>\n<p>This is an attempt to detail what actually worked for me.<\/p>\n<p>A gentleman known as John runs a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caradimas.org\/john\/?p=193\" target=\"_blank\">blog <\/a>that lays the issue out quite plainly.\u00a0 However his steps did not work for me.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s what I had to do slightly differently:<\/p>\n<p>Use another mac to download the installer.app.\u00a0 You will find it in your applications folder.\u00a0 Copy it somewhere safe, as after it runs it deletes itself.<\/p>\n<p>Install it to the drive you want to use and boot from that drive to finish the setup.\u00a0 Reboot with your original drive, and then enter the following commands into terminal.\u00a0 Replace <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">SSD_Ext<\/span> with <em>your<\/em> volume name, and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">john<\/span> with <em>your<\/em> user name:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>cd \/Volumes\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">SSD_Ext<\/span>\/System\/Library\/CoreServices<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This will take you to the first place where the boot.efi needs to be replaced.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>sudo chflags nouchg boot.efi<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Enter your password and remove the protection from boot.efi<\/p>\n<p>Visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/piker-alpha.github.io\/macosxbootloader\" target=\"_blank\">following URL<\/a> and download the patched boot.efi to your desktop.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>cp \/Users\/<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">john<\/span>\/Desktop\/boot.efi boot.efi<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That will copy the new boot.efi to CoreServices, overwriting the standard one.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>sudo chflags uchg boot.efi<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This will protect boot.efi again.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>sudo nano PlatformSupport.plist<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>enter the following at the top:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&lt;string&gt;Mac-F4208DC8&lt;\/string&gt;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hit Control + X, yes, enter.<\/p>\n<p>This will save the file and take you back to the prompt. Now enter:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>cd ..\/..\/..\/usr\/standalone\/i386<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This will take you to the second location, where you need to copy the boot.efi file.
