{"id":228,"date":"2016-02-08T14:39:08","date_gmt":"2016-02-08T21:39:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wiki.lillerant.com\/?p=228"},"modified":"2016-02-09T11:35:30","modified_gmt":"2016-02-09T18:35:30","slug":"windows-server-2012-r2-on-mac-pro-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wiki.lillerant.com\/?p=228","title":{"rendered":"Windows Server 2012 R2 on Mac Pro 1,1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yes it can be done, but they don&#8217;t make it easy.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>There is no reason your Mac Pro can&#8217;t run it, but Bootcamp won&#8217;t let you boot a windows install disc (USB is right out) beyond Windows 7.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because they&#8217;re dicks and want to sell you a new machine.<\/p>\n<p>The long and short of it is that you&#8217;re going to have to modify your install media.\u00a0 You extract your iso, run a file, and then burn the modified iso.\u00a0 This will let you install.\u00a0 This blog <a href=\"http:\/\/glennstevenson.com\/Blog\/TabId\/1115\/PostId\/4\/Install-Windows-7-64-Bit-On-Mac-Pro.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">describes it in detail<\/a>, though I believe he has his folders switched in the command he gives.<\/p>\n<p>In case that site vaporizes (with corrected instructions):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Create three folders on a Windows machine. The folders should be\n<ul>\n<li>C:\\Win7exe<\/li>\n<li>C:\\Win7iso<\/li>\n<li>C:\\Win7dvd<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If you have an iso image of windows you need to extract it and place the files in the folder C:\\Win7dvd. If you are unsure how to extract the files from the iso image you can use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.7-zip.org\/download.html\" target=\"_blank\">7-Zip<\/a>. It works quite well.<\/li>\n<li>Download the file oscdimg.exe and place it in C:\\Win7exe.
